planes, trains and gas guzzling automobiles

Ah, memorial day weekend. The extended, holiday weekend when many people flee their abodes in search of a relaxing retreat. There's just that pesky traffic to stress you out on your way there...and back. That's not to say that I haven't joined in the mass departure. I'm all for a weekend away. Although, I don't actually own a car. I'd rather not re-immerse myself in single-transit (opposite of mass transit?) just yet. I'm sure I'll have a car again someday, but for the time being, my ZipCar membership serves me just fine and I've promised myself that when I do have a car again, it will be a hybrid.

Even if you wouldn't classify yourself as an environmentalist, you have to admit that no matter where you live, the current gas prices are taking a toll on your wallet. Chicago happens to hold the record for the highest gas prices in the nation right now. This
news came out earlier in the week from Lundberg Inc. Lundberg benchmarks gas prices every two to three weeks at roughly 5,000 gas stations across the country. San Francisco and Los Angeles are previous record holders.

Given the gas prices and poor planning, I'll be staying in Chicago this weekend. Maybe go for long walks and explore new places, maybe go to the
farmers market, maybe go to a friend's barbecue, maybe work on refinishing that coffee table that I started sanding a long time ago, maybe sneak into Bike the Drive. What will you do this weekend?

If you're looking for something to bring to a Memorial Day party, try this
recipe for chicken salad with apple and basil.

We can lower the price of gas if
we convert the nations trains to
use electric energy instead of
using diesel or diesel electric
power.

This lessens the demand for
diesel which lowers the price
of it. More would opt to use
diesel that now use gas and
this lowers the demand on gas
which lowers its cost.

To help create enough electric
energy to do this we could set
up the rail cars on the trains
with genators and an onboard
computer to operate them wire-
lessly. This could task some
wheels which tuck up under the
rail cars to come down and
make electricity. Having just
enough come down to just keep
the trains going while the
trains are going down grades
unless the train is stopping.
By setting these to come down
and generate power when
stopping would give the trains added traction to help them
stop sooner which could help prevent some train accidents.
The rail cars are privately
owned but those who purchase
them would rather make more
money from them as they haul
cargo which could be used to
offset their costs for their
cars being pulled. The power
grid that is set up to power
the trains could be used to collect this new energy.

To help create more electric
energy we could have a law
passed allowing American
citizens to put barges on our
nations rivers and harness
energy from them. These could
use more modern style paddle
wheels which billow like a
sail and have hinges to drop
away as they leave the water
to help create even more
energy. They could also be
made fully submersable so all
that would be seen is the box
next to the river to collect
the electric energy and a
ripple on the surface as the
water propels them.

How about building many big
pipelines to take water from
above areas prone to flooding
and pipe it down river far
enough that elevations drops
far enough to run generators
when it is put back into the rivers over and over again.
This would help take some
burden off the tax payers
every time there is not a
flood in those areas.

Harness the energy which for
the most part goes to waste
today from our tides. These
are just now begining to be
tapped. Pudget Sound is an
emense area and could have
many thousands of barges
which would be more efficient
to generate power than the
fan type being tested on the
east coast. The billowing
paddle wheels would not hurt
near as many fish as the fan
blades in murky water where
the fish would not be able
to see them, helping the
different species to survive.

This is just a few ways we
could create huge amounts of
electric energy. If we make
enough we would see the price
of gas drop more and more. If
enough is created the price
of electric energy would come
down which might cause some
to heat with it instead of
heating oil. This again lets
the price of a barrel come
down due to supply and demand
as we seen this last winter.

A whole lot less green house
gases, cheaper prices at the
pump, more hope for the
children of the earth to have
enough oil for their future
and less problems with what
some say is global warming.

I could use help in getting
this message out and soon
you will be able to go to:

information on it on google.
