I don't feel like I did much this weekend, but yet I feel drained. Funny how that can happen. On Friday evening, I met Jared after work. We ordered some Indian food and rented a movie. After the walk back, we wrestled with dripping keema matar in the kitchen. Jared held the poorly packaged dish over the trash can while I grabbed a plate to put underneath it. Then we chowed down on the yummy food and started "The Holiday." The movie was depressing in the beginning, so after a time we turned it off and watched a 20/20 recording about luck.
Saturday morning had an early start (at 7AM). I had plans to do yoga with a friend in Millennium Park. Despite my efforts to arrive on time (I'm usually early), I got there a few minutes after 8AM. The weather was warm already with a predicted 90-degree day. As we looked for a spot to roll out our mats, I got scared by the brown, cylindrical things lying in the grass...I thought it was dog poop that hadn't been collected by a dog owner. We moved to another spot and found more; it was everywhere. Then I realized the "poop" was really just dirt and the park staff must have been planting grass seed with one of those heavy-duty machines. After I got over my lingering anxiety of stepping barefoot into poop, the yoga was wonderful and it was nice to see such a large turn-out.
From yoga, we walked down Michigan Avenue to the Oak Street Beachstro. I had wanted to go there for a long time and had never been...even though I lived on Oak Street for a year, less than a block away. While the buffet looked yummy, we decided to forgo the hot stuff for bagels and fruit. The way the Beachstro is set-up is really nice. You actually kind of feel like you're somewhere tropical.
After breakfast, I went home. I felt another headache coming on, but before taking any medicine, I thought I'd see if a cold shower would help. It did a bit, so I jumped into some work I had to do, checking a list of names our creative team developed for a client to see if there would be trademark issues. That took about an hour...and off I sent my spreadsheet of info.
The earlier than normal Saturday alarm setting and being outside in the sun left me feeling tired, so I decided to take a nap. My nap ended up lasting much longer than I anticipated. It rained for a short bit, so the temperature had cooled down and made it even more conducive to napping. After my lazy afternoon, Jared and I decided to meet up to finish the movie. I waited 35 minutes for the bus (it should be 15 or 20 at the most) and sat through a grueling ride with lots of screaming kids from the zoo, but finally made it to Jared's over an hour after I left home...I think I should have walked the 3.5 miles. We ended up sharing more carry out--pizza and garlic bread this time. I usually try to eat pretty healthfully, but the weekend is my carefree food time. The movie was cute, but a little cheesy and formulaic.
I slept in this morning and then called my dad to wish him a happy fathers day. I caught up with my dad and my mom, who was traveling for work all of this past week. The headache came back around 1PM, so I took it easy again this afternoon. I finished the book I was reading, Watership Down, which made me happy. It was an enjoyable read and I like finishing books because I get some sense of accomplishment out of it. I have a long list of books to read and even though I'm continually adding to the list, I guess I feel like I'm one step closer to some end point when I finish a book.
