This evening I helped with the annual awards ceremony for the Newhouse Program. The 2006/2007 school year marked the 25th anniversary of the program which operates in the Chicago public school system and is overseen by the Chicago Architecture Foundation. Essentially, it provides an opportunity for high school students to learn more about the fields of architecture and design through special classes where they team with passionate school teachers and practicing architects. I helped with the awards ceremony last year too, getting the students all lined up to receive their hard-earned trophies and certificates:
Sticker on left shoulder.
Stand by your division number.
Pleeeease read these additional instructions.
And congratulations!
A select few even get to participate in a week-long summer program at Taliesin. It's just so wonderful to see their work and their sense of accomplishment. They really should be proud.
The sad part to me, is seeing forty or so awards that go unclaimed because the students don't show up to the ceremony for one reason or another. This happened last year too, although the number was a bit smaller then. I feel so excited for these teens as do their teachers and I see the disappointment in the teachers' eyes when their star pupils don't attend. I know you can't force everyone to participate, but I hope they all recognize the value of their work and their potential to create great things.

I found someone who translated Rodrigo's comment (in Brazilian Portuguese):
"Hi, I found your blog through Google. It's very interesting. I liked what you have posted. When you go to my blog by chance, it is about personalized t-shirts. It shows step by step how to create a very cool personalized t-shirt. See you later."
