teaching assistantship

Everything is squared away with my work study job now. I was officially offered the position after they verified my work study award and on Monday morning, I went over to their office to fill out all of the fun tax paperwork. While I was there, I also got a tour of the office and met a few people with whom I'll be working in a few weeks. I won't be able to set a schedule set there until I now when my classes are, but I'm permitted to work up to twenty hours a week at their office.

The tricky thing is that later in the day on Monday, an email went out to the students in the College of Architecture about teaching assistantship (TA) positions for incoming students. I was previously under the impression that I couldn't be a TA until my second year. I would really love to get one of the spots because it would allow me to interact more with other students and I'd get to know some of the faculty on a different level than I would by just being in their class. If I was offered one of the spots, I'd have to commit to 5-20 hours per week. The job I already have is also flexible in that I just have to work at least five hours a week. So I really want to apply for a TA position and I think I will. I'm just a little worried about taking on too much. I have a habit of doing that...
