drawing class: day one

Today was the first day of my prep drawing class. The class is being offered for free to the Program 3 students (the program I'm in). It lasts all morning for just this week.

I had a lot of fun in the class today. There are only 12 other people taking it and they all seem pretty nice. One of the things I've been most curious to learn about are the backgrounds of the different people in my program...since it's the one for people without any architecture training. Of course, we went around and did introductions, so I got to learn a bit about people: we have a couple interior designers, an urban planner, a theater designer, a photographer, a physics major who has been a practicing pastor for a while, and a psychology and art double-major.

Our professor talked for a while about some basics of architectural drawing and as he explained and drew things, he had us draw along. We learned about plan views, orthographic drawings, axonimetric drawings and cross-sections. Our light homework assignment was to draw an everyday object in these different ways. I drew my toaster. Who new it would come in handy for something other than making toast?
