field

It was been a rather intense, but fun first (full) week of classes. Last night, all of us went to the Wabash Tap for drinks and munchies to de-stress and get to know each other better outside of the studio and class environment. I really like everyone in my class. Their all so nice and I feel like I can talk to them easily.

I think I mentioned that Tuesday was a long day in my last post and that trend continued. On Wednesday, I was working in studio until just before midnight. I got to bed a little before 1AM and then I had to get up at 6:30AM for work on Thursday. Our last class on Thursday ended a little early, at 8:40AM, so it was a treat to leave "early." Friday was fun. I had to work in the morning, meaning a 6:30AM wake-up call again, but during studio we presented our group projects and then went on a field trip downtown to get our next assignment.

This assignment builds off of the work we've been doing for the past week. Essentially, we were trying to explore ideas of what a "field" is. A site, a pattern, a grid, an expanse...? We had to carve a stamp from an eraser and then use that stamp to depict our ideas of a field. Four drawings were due Monday, four on Wednesday and then a group project (in threes) combining our different stamps was due yesterday. So our next assignment is taking that same strategy--still in a group--and applying it to a 3D environment. We have to pick a site somewhere along the river downtown between Wabash and the lake and create a field in a field. During our field trip, we walked along the areas that we are allowed to use and talked about the challenges of different areas such as lots of foot traffic, wind, rain, lots of sunlight or no sunlight, etc. I'm really excited to work on this next phase!

And if you're wondering why I'm up so early, it's because I'm working at 10AM today...but only until 2PM. Yay! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend.
