Saturday was full of arts and eating. I slept in a little and then met up with Jared. We went to see the new Jeff Koons exhibit at the MCA, which was interesting, but not what I expected. I didn't realize that he painted, so the painted works were a surprise to me. His work was quite varied and the exhibit didn't seem organized in any fashion whatsoever (chronological, art medium, etc.). One second, you'd be staring at a shiny, stainless steel poodle and the next, you would see an advertisement-like painting. Adding to the confusion was the fact that some of the carved, polychromed wood sculptures were signed with the name "Franz Weiser" and some sculptures were signed with the name "Albert Moroder." The exhibit text did nothing to explain these curious details. Overall, it was interesting to see, but I wish the museum had done more to explain his work. From the exhibit, we walked to Goddess and Grocer for sandwiches. We waited for a few minutes until a table outside cleared, since the weather was lovely. Dessert was a must, so we walked a ways to get smoothies. Later in the evening, we went to the CSO to hear Dvorák's symphony no.8. An Ives' piece was also played, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Some parts were beautiful and interesting, but others were quite a cacophony. In fact, one portion required two conductors because of the mayhem of differing parts and the number of players.

I read an article about the exhibit in the June issue of "CS," which gave me a better feel for the context in which Jeff Koons has created his art and put together the MCA exhibit.
